Identified Training and Learning Pathways

Workforce development creates meaningful pathways for individuals at every stage of their careers. By connecting education with real-world opportunities and supporting continued growth, we help local talent gain valuable experience, develop their skills, and build rewarding careers within our community.

Our Volunteer Services Department offers opportunities for juniors ages 15–18, college students enrolled in an academic program, and adults over 18 to share their time and skills while gaining valuable experience and supporting our community. Volunteers serve in roles that complement, but do not replace, the work of employees. Learn more about volunteer opportunities and how to apply online.

Mentor Me M.D. is an opportunity for young adults to be exposed to exciting healthcare career opportunities. The purpose of the program is to promote healthcare careers in our young population and mentor a group of students by showing them aspects of the medical field – giving them opportunities for direct contact with medical professionals, patients and clinical staff – all of this while learning about professional development to help them obtain their career goals. By participating in special programs such as flu shot clinics and sports coverage, the mentees can give back to the Onvida community. Additionally, those applicants within the program will have the unique opportunity to be assigned to a family medicine resident and gain the much-needed support, feedback and guidance that can be derived from a mentor/mentee relationship. By witnessing first-hand the work and sacrifices that our Onvida Health family medicine residents undertook to get where they are today, we hope to inspire a new generation of doctors and other healthcare providers. In short, our mentors will benefit from an opportunity to influence the next generation positively, obtain new insights and perspectives, grow as a mentor, and attain recognition for mentorship excellence. Mentees will benefit from personalized access to a knowledgeable colleague in a non-threatening environment that includes reassurance and support, strategic career planning, and skill development as a route to achieving improved self-confidence, professional growth, and career success.

Our shadowing program provides individuals ages 15 and older with the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into clinical and non-clinical roles across Onvida Health. Managed by Volunteer Services, shadowing experiences typically range from 4–8 hours, depending on the department and leader, and participants do not need to be active volunteers. While provider shadowing is not available through this program, physician shadowing opportunities are coordinated and approved through Graduate Medical Education.

Non-clinical internships provide students and recent graduates with the opportunity to develop valuable skills and gain hands-on experience in the healthcare industry. Internship opportunities may be available in areas such as:

  • Public Relations
  • Accounting
  • Total Rewards (Compensation)
  • Business Development.

Coordinated through Human Resources in partnership with department leaders, these internships are open to individuals age 18 and older who are currently pursuing or have recently completed a bachelor’s degree. Internships are paid at a flat rate of $18 per hour and may not exceed 40 hours per week or 12 weeks.

This program provides opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience while completing coursework or required credit hours through:

  • Mentorships
  • In-person practicums
  • Other educational experiences

Coordinated through the Clinical Education Department, these opportunities are typically arranged when a school reaches out to Onvida Health on behalf of its students. Because students receive academic credit or fulfill program requirements through their experience, these opportunities are generally unpaid.

Community partnerships provide individuals with valuable job experience and pathways to full-time employment. Coordinated through the Human Resources Department, these opportunities may include partnerships with Arizona@Work and employer training sites that offer subsidized on-the-job training. These programs help individuals build practical skills and gain experience in a professional setting while connecting them with potential employment opportunities. Participation in subsidized employment is subject to program requirements and a limit on the number of on-the-job trainees that can be accepted.

Employee Career Advancement opportunities help team members build skills, pursue education and grow within their careers at Onvida Health. Through tuition reimbursement, career ladders internal career opportunities and sponsorship programs, employees can access pathways for professional advancement, including:

  • PCA-to-LPN progression
  • Surgical Tech training
  • Imaging and Lab externships

Team members may also use the Lifestyle Spending Account for eligible expenses such as:

  • Certifications
  • Licenses
  • School supplies
  • Other financial assistance
