The exceptional faculty members that lead our Psychiatry Residency program share a passion for teaching and clinical education. They mentor and guide our residents to provide them with a comprehensive education and the tools they need to practice psychiatry.

Eyuel Terefe, M.D.

Program Director, Psychiatry Residency Program

Eyuel Terefe, M.D., moved to Yuma to help establish and lead the region’s first psychiatry residency program, proudly serving as its inaugural Program Director. He earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City and completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler.

A passionate and visionary psychiatrist, Dr. Terefe is deeply committed to transforming mental health care through holistic, patient-centered, and evidence-based approaches. He is dedicated to advancing behavioral health, fostering innovation in psychiatric practice, and training the next generation of compassionate and capable psychiatrists. His leadership is grounded in clinical excellence, equity, and a culture of collaboration that uplifts both learners and the communities they serve.

Dr. Terefe thrives on mentoring physicians, driving quality improvement, and implementing impactful community-based initiatives. His work is guided by a strong sense of purpose: to enrich lives, promote resilience, and create a lasting legacy of hope and well-being.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Terefe enjoys playing sports, exploring nature on walks, listening to thought-provoking podcasts, and spending quality time with his family.

Lorena Cancino Gacharna, M.D.

Associate Program Director, Psychiatry Residency Program

Lorena Cancino Gacharna, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist in both General Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry and serves as the Associate Program Director of the Psychiatry Residency Program at Onvida Health Behavioral Health. She earned her medical degree from Universidad de La Sabana in Chía, Colombia, and completed her psychiatry residency at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx, New York. She subsequently completed a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Cancino enjoys working in the outpatient setting and has a special interest in caring for older adults. Outside of her clinical and academic roles, she enjoys sports, spending time with family and friends, singing, running, hiking, and exploring new foods.

Miguel A. Tosado Rivera, M.D.

Attending Psychiatrist, Medical Director, Psychiatry Residency Faculty

Miguel A. Tosado, M.D., is a dedicated psychiatrist with a strong focus on mood disorders, personality disorders, and integrated behavioral health. A proud member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Tosado brings a holistic and compassionate approach to patient care.

Dr. Tosado earned his medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in México and completed additional training at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. He went on to complete his psychiatry residency at the Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Puerto Rico. For over a decade, Dr. Tosado has served as an Attending Psychiatrist at Onvida Health, where he provided outpatient care and hospital consultations. His commitment to patient-centered care earned him the prestigious Voice of the Patient Award.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Tosado enjoys swimming, listening to a wide variety of music, watching movies, volunteering at his church, and spending quality time with his wife, children, extended family, and their playful Westie dog

Panna Patel, D.O.

Attending Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Psychiatry Residency Faculty

Panna Patel, D.O., has a strong focus on child and adolescent mental health, including ADHD, Autism and mood disorders. As a published author for various research and a children’s book, her goal in patient care involves education on both diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Patel completed her medical school training at University of North Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed her psychiatry residency at Texas Tech University Health Science Center and fast tracked her education to complete a fellowship in Child and Adolescent psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

She has been with Onvida for about a year and has expressed significant interest in continuing to serve the population in Yuma

Gwendolyn E. Roberson, M.D., M.A.

Attending Psychiatrist, Psychiatry Residency Faculty

Gwendolyn E. Roberson, M.D., M.A., is a thoughtful and experienced psychiatrist with clinical interests in bipolar disorder, family dynamics, and the impact of social and environmental factors on mental health. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings and recently joined Onvida Health to provide inpatient care at the behavioral health unit and hospital consultations. She is known for her warm, patient-centered approach and commitment to compassionate care.

After earning a master’s degree in experimental psychology from Wake Forest University, Dr. Roberson worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center conducting research on post-concussive syndrome. She completed her medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by psychiatry residency at the University of Utah where she also became an avid skier.

Outside of work and skiing, Dr. Roberson enjoys hiking, camping, seeing live music, and spending time with her dog. She also enjoys exploring her new community and discovering all that Yuma has to offer.
