Onvida Health has made history as the first hospital in Arizona to successfully perform a renal denervation (RDN) procedure, offering a groundbreaking new treatment for patients struggling with high blood pressure. The procedure was led by interventional cardiologist Dr. Evren Kaynak and was supported by a multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing cardiac care.

Renal denervation is a simple, minimally invasive procedure designed for individuals with high blood pressure that remains uncontrolled despite medication or lifestyle changes. The procedure works by calming overactive nerves around the arteries that supply blood to the kidneys, helping to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage.

“This procedure represents a major step forward in the way we treat high blood pressure,” said Dr. Kaynak. “For patients who have exhausted traditional treatments, renal denervation offers new hope. Our goal is to provide the most advanced care possible. Being the first in Arizona to perform this procedure is a testament to Onvida Health’s commitment to innovation and patient well-being.”

The first patient to undergo RDN at Onvida Health had previously been on multiple blood pressure medications without achieving stable results. Thanks to the expertise of Dr. Kaynak and the Cath Lab Team, the patient was discharged the next day with stable vital signs and significantly improved blood pressure.

“I am beyond grateful to Dr. Kaynak and his incredible team at Onvida Health for giving me a second chance at a healthier life. Before this procedure, my blood pressure was a constant struggle, and despite trying multiple medications, it never stayed under control. Since undergoing renal denervation, my blood pressure has remained stable, and for the first time in years, my family doesn’t have to live in fear of me having a heart attack,” said Edwin Jimenez. “The fact that a groundbreaking procedure like this is available right here in Yuma means so much. I can’t thank Onvida Health enough for bringing this level of innovation and compassion to our local community.”

Onvida Health extends its gratitude to the Supply Chain, Revenue, Billing, and Coding departments, as well as Dr. Magu, Deb Aders, Claudia Gallardo, and Tracy Terrones for their leadership in making this milestone possible. This achievement highlights the power of teamwork and Onvida Health’s mission to bring cutting-edge treatments to the Yuma community.
