Onvida Health is excited to announce that Pilkington Construction Company will serve as the general contractor for the new Health Careers Center. The 50,497 square foot facility will serve as an important investment in the development of local career paths. This innovative partnership between Onvida Health and Arizona Western College (AWC) will spark new career opportunities across our region.

The new Health Careers Center marks the next step in the long-standing partnership between AWC and Onvida Health. Onvida Health’s purpose is building a healthier tomorrow and AWC’s mission is built upon transforming lives through education and partnerships. This latest initiative reflects their shared vision for addressing our community’s growing healthcare needs by developing a strong pipeline of skilled professionals locally.

“This facility will not only enhance local educational opportunities but will also ensure we are able to retain the local talent needed to provide quality healthcare here at home for generations to come,” said Dr. Robert J. Trenschel, President & CEO of Onvida Health.

“Pilkington Construction Company is proud to be the selected builder for Onvida Health’s new Health Careers Center building, says Clint Harrington, President of Pilkington Construction Company. “This dynamic project represents a significant investment in the future of our region’s healthcare infrastructure, and we are honored to play a leading role.”

In the spirit of recruiting local talent, Pilkington Construction Company has committed to hiring 90 percent Yuma County-based subcontractors to support their efforts.

“Now more than ever, supporting our local labor workforce is essential,” adds Harrington. “We’re proud to have assembled a skilled, dedicated team right here in our community—comprised of local employees and talented subcontractors who bring both experience and pride to every phase of construction. Pilkington Construction Company remains committed to building strong, resilient projects that serve our community—and we are truly thrilled to be part of this exciting new chapter with Onvida Health.”

“Having a local contractor, who has been working in Yuma County since 1985, is reflective of our commitment to stay rooted in the community,” added Dr. Trenschel. ““We are proud to partner with Pilkington Construction and we applaud their commitment to using local subcontractors for this project. This not only ensures a high-quality project but also benefits the Yuma community by supporting local businesses and creating jobs.”

The Health Career Center will offer a wide range of programs in areas including a certified medical assistant program, phlebotomy certification, research, data and analytics, informatics, healthcare administration, technology, patient care, facilities, and will serve students pursuing dual credit, short-term certificates and associate degrees, and university students seeking bachelor’s and beyond. A cutting-edge simulation lab will provide students an opportunity to learn and practice essential medical skills, such as checking vital signs, inserting catheters and IVs, conducting patient evaluations, and more. Construction of the facility is set for completion in 2027.
