Our program director and other exceptional physician mentors share an interest in challenging and teaching our sports medicine fellows. They will provide you with the specific experiences you need to practice non-surgical sports medicine.

Ryan Zerr, D.O.
Fellowship Program Director
Dr. Ryan Zerr joined Onvida Health’s Graduate Medical Education faculty to direct the Sports Medicine Fellowship program. In addition to serving as the mentor to our fellows, he treats patients for their athletic injuries. Dr. Zerr earned his medical degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, MO. He completed his family medicine residency at Phoenix Baptist Hospital in Phoenix, AZ and his sports medicine fellowship at the University of Nevada, Reno, in Reno, NV. He is board-certified in family medicine with a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine.
Dr. Zerr enjoys spending time with his family and watching them participate in athletic, school and community events. He also enjoys weight lifting, travel and smoking ribs and pulled pork.

Alfonso Téllez II, M.D.
Core Faculty and Fellowship Program Alum
Dr. Alfonso Téllez II was born in Tucson, AZ and grew up in Yuma. He earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona. He completed his family and community medicine residency and sports medicine fellowship at Onvida Health. He feels deep satisfaction from his work in the community to promote health education and help the underserved.
In his free time, Dr. Téllez enjoys cycling, soccer, hiking, movies, cooking and planning trips to new places.

Stephen Gipson, D.O.
Fellowship Program Alum
Dr. Gipson was born in Kansas City, MO, and spent his formative years in the midwest. He earned his medical degree from A.T. Stills Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his family medicine residency with the Creighton University Arizona Alliance Family Medicine Residency Program in Phoenix, AZ. During his residency, he assisted with the development of both a sports medicine and a point-of-care ultrasound curriculum. In addition to family medicine training, he enjoyed participating in sideline event coverage as well as urgent care employment as a moonlighter. He completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship from the Onvida Health Sports Medicine Fellowship program. Dr. Gipson’s personal interests include traveling, hiking, playing with his dog, attending sporting events, water sports and trail running.

Luke Hess, D.O.
Current Fellow
Born in San Diego, Luke Hess, D.O. spent his formative years in the southern California area. He earned his medical degree from Burrell College pf Osteopathic Medicine and completed his family medicine residency with Penn State Health St. Joseph’s Family and Community Residency Program in Reading, PA. During his residency he served as administrative chief his final year. He is board certified in OMT. In addition to family medicine training, his medical interests include primary care, point of care ultrasound and sideline event coverage.
Dr. Hess personal interests include traveling, running, playing soccer, and watching his Penn State Nittany Lions play football on Saturdays.
