Onvida Health is excited to host the Mentor Me MD Winter Workshop on Monday, January 5 through Wednesday, January 7. The three-day collaborative event is designed to inspire and prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.

“The purpose of Mentor Me MD is to promote healthcare careers in our young population and mentor a group of students by showing them aspects of the medical field – giving them opportunities for direct contact with medical professionals, patients and clinical staff – all of this while learning about professional development to help them obtain their career goals,” said Dr. Matthew Bishop, who leads Mentor Me MD.

The Mentor Me MD program is one of several strategic initiatives—alongside Junior Volunteers, Health Career Camp, and our growing Residency Program—that reflects Onvida Health’s long-term commitment to growing our own future healthcare workforce.

“Programs like Mentor Me MD play a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare. By connecting students with physicians and healthcare professionals in real clinical environments early on, we help them see a future for themselves in healthcare and empower them with the confidence and skills needed to pursue that path right here in our community,” said Dr. Veerauo Konkankit, another vital leader to the Mentor Me MD program.

These initiatives directly support the region’s need for skilled healthcare professionals and align with major investments such as the AWC Health Careers Center and the upcoming University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix expansion. Together, these efforts strengthen the pipeline from early exploration to advanced clinical training, ensuring students have opportunities to learn, stay and serve in their own communities.
