Onvida Health is proud to announce it has been selected as an Epicenter Case Observation Site by Intuitive, a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery. The recognition highlights the hospital’s expertise in robotic surgery and the leadership of Dr. Simon Lavotshkin, Medical Director of Robotic Surgery at Onvida Health, whose work will help share Onvida’s advanced surgical knowledge with providers from across the country.

As part of this program, surgeons and care teams from across the country will visit Onvida Health to observe robotic procedures and learn from Dr. Lavotshkin and the surgical team. The experience allows visiting providers to see firsthand how advanced technology and teamwork are helping care for patients in the region.

“This recognition reflects more than our team’s dedication. It represents Onvida Health’s continued investment in advanced robotics and leading-edge surgical technology to elevate care in our region,” said Dr. Lavotshkin. “We are proud to bring the most innovative techniques to Yuma, improving precision, recovery and outcomes for our patients while sharing our expertise to advance care beyond our community.”

Epicenter Case Observation Sites are selected based on the experience of their surgeons, the quality of patient care and the strength of their robotics programs. Only a small number of hospitals receive this designation.

Each observation session is designed to give visiting providers a close look at how robotic procedures are performed. Typically, visiting surgeons observe a procedure alongside a robotics specialist, creating an opportunity to learn, ask questions and share ideas during the case.

Dr. Lavotshkin performs a wide range of robotic procedures, including gallbladder surgery, hernia repair and other general surgery cases. Known for his expertise and commitment to innovation, he has embraced multiple surgical techniques, advancing treatment options close to home. Visiting surgeons will have the opportunity to observe these procedures and learn how the Onvida Health team works together to deliver high-quality care.

“We initially invested in our robotics program nearly six years ago with the vision of elevating patient care through state-of-the-art, minimally invasive surgical technology. Watching that vision come to life has been extraordinary. Under Dr. Lavotshkin’s leadership, our program has grown to seven robots and 15 providers who are now trained and thriving in this advanced modality,” said Jake Childs, President of Hospital Operations at Onvida Health.

Onvida Health has steadily expanded its robotics program in recent years, bringing advanced surgical technology and expertise to the region. The Epicenter designation recognizes that progress and further strengthens the hospital’s role as a leader in robotic surgery in southwestern Arizona.

“This recognition is a powerful testament to what we’ve long known — Dr. Lavotshkin’s expertise, commitment and mentorship are truly unparalleled,” added Childs. “We celebrate this tremendous honor with him and extend our heartfelt gratitude for his unwavering dedication to our robotic surgery program.”
