Onvida Health, in partnership with the City of Yuma, the Clean and Beautiful Commission, and NextGen, is proud to unveil Yuma’s first-ever augmented reality mural—a vibrant new feature transforming the East Main Canal area into a destination for art, wellness and community connection.

The mural unveiling marks Phase II of the ongoing East Main Canal Beautification Project, a multi-phase initiative designed to enhance Yuma’s outdoor spaces through art, nature and innovation. Phase I, launched in 2024, focused on revitalizing the city’s bike path along 24th Street and 16th Street, where community volunteers, along with APS, planted 100 trees to bring new life to the area.

Created by Faux Real Design Group, the new augmented reality mural celebrates Yuma’s unique spirit by honoring its agricultural roots, military presence and Native American heritage. The artwork was thoughtfully designed to evoke a sense of movement and vitality for those walking, running or biking along the path.

By scanning the mural with a smartphone or tablet, visitors can experience dynamic visuals, soundscapes, and 3D effects, creating a one-of-a-kind experience that blends art and technology.

“This mural is a perfect example of what happens when creativity and the community come together,” said Jennifer Reichelt, Deputy City Administrator. “Through the leadership of our Clean and Beautiful Commission and partnerships with Onvida Health, APS, and NextGen, we’re transforming public spaces into places that inspire community pride, activity, and connection. Projects like this enhance the quality of life for all our residents.”

“At Onvida Health, we truly care about the well-being and beauty of the communities we’re part of,” said Machele Headington, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications. “This project is a great example of our Rooted in the Community pillar in action — helping to make the places where our neighbors live, work, and play even better.”

The Clean and Beautiful Commission, which plays a key role in community beautification initiatives, continues to partner with local organizations to promote environmental stewardship and pride throughout Yuma.

To commemorate this exciting milestone, Onvida Health will host the Onvida Health Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, November 15, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The 5K is a celebration of health and beautification as runners and walkers from the community will be among the first to experience the new augmented reality mural firsthand as they run past the instillation.
