Onvida Health is thrilled to announce the expansion of its digital capabilities with the rollout of the Epic Rover app, a mobile tool that equips nurses with hand-held devices at the bedside to document and access patient information in real time. Building on Onvida Health’s dedication to high-quality care, this new tool will allow patients to experience more seamless, efficient care, with nurses now being able to update records, review information, and respond to needs all in real time during each interaction.
With Rover, nurses can scan medications, record vital signs, and make sure patient samples are correctly labeled at the bedside, adding another layer of accuracy and protection for patients. The devices are set up to work only on hospital Wi-Fi and within Epic’s secure system, ensuring health information remains protected at all times. By simplifying documentation and routine tasks, the technology allows nurses to devote more of their attention to patients rather than stepping away to chart at a workstation.
While these devices may look like regular smartphones, they are in fact professional medical tools designed specifically to improve the patient experience. The Rover devices are wrapped in orange Onvida-branded cases so they’re instantly recognizable as hospital tools, not personal phones. Nurses use them to access health records instantly, communicate with doctors and pharmacists in real time, and receive urgent safety alerts. The result is faster response times, more accurate information at the bedside, and a safer, more connected care experience.
“Giving our nurses smart tools like Rover means they can spend more time connecting with patients, and that’s what really matters,” said Marc Chasin, SVP and Chief Information Officer at Onvida Health. “This technology is fast, accurate, and safe, but what excites me most is how it frees our caregivers to focus on the human side of medicine – the listening, the comfort, the moments of compassion that make all the difference for patients and families.”
Nursing teams at Onvida Health join a growing number of Epic organizations nationwide adopting Rover to bring care closer to the bedside. While the application is primarily used by nurses for real-time clinical documentation, its impact extends across the care team by reducing delays, minimizing errors, and improving communication. As more health systems embrace mobile tools, Rover continues to demonstrate how technology can make care safer, faster, and more connected for both patients and clinicians.
“What I love most about being a nurse is the conversations I get to have with patients and their families,” said Jennifer Hill, registered nurse at Onvida Health. “Those moments help me understand their needs, speak up for them, and give the best care I can. Rover might look like a simple tool, but it makes a big difference. I’m excited about this new technology and the extra time it will give me at the bedside.”
“By combining advanced technology with the compassion of our care teams, we’re not only improving the way care is delivered today but also strengthening the foundation for a healthier future in our community,” added Chasin.
