Onvida Health is home to the region’s only Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center recognized by the American College of Radiology. This is a national designation that is rare for hospitals in rural areas to obtain, and it means local women have access to care that meets the highest standards for accuracy, safety, and support, without having to leave Yuma County.
“Catching breast cancer early saves lives, and a mammogram is the best way to do that,” said Dr. Joshua Reber, radiologist at Onvida Health. “We put patients and families at the center of everything we do, and that includes making sure women can access high-quality care close to home, without added stress or cost.”
A mammogram is a low-dose x-ray that can detect breast cancer early, often before there are any symptoms. Catching cancer early means more options and better outcomes. The American College of Radiology recommends:
- Starting annual mammograms at age 40
- Getting a risk assessment by age 30 to see if you should start sooner
At Onvida Health, patients benefit from both 2D and 3D mammography. These tools help doctors spot changes more clearly, which means fewer false alarms and fewer repeat visits. This technology, coupled with our board-certified radiologists ensures patients receive precise readings and timely diagnoses, driving excellent outcomes for patients. And while the technology is advanced, the process is simple, and most insurance plans cover screening mammograms at no cost to the patient.
“Some women worry that newer technology might cost more,” said Dr. Reber. “But in most cases, insurance covers it entirely. This is the type of advanced technology I would refer my mom, wife or daughter to – the type of technology our entire community deserves.”
