We understand that starting or growing your family is a big decision. Before you make that decision, one of several birth control options may best serve your unique needs. We encourage you to consult with your provider to determine a method that is best for you. Your options may include oral contraception, an IUD, vaginal ring, patch, implant, tubal ligation or emergency contraception. Should you have concerns about affording birth control, talk with your provider.
We want out maturing patients to know if they are at risk of osteoporosis. Bone Density DEXA scanning is a painless, non-surgical method to evaluate this risk. When detected early. We can make medical and lifestyle recommendations to help at-risk women delay or avoid this type of arthritis.
We want you to enjoy feeling your best for all of the stages along your journey of aging, from young adulthood through childbearing years, menopause and beyond. During good health, you can lean on our women’s health providers for support and resources to help keep you healthy. For times when health concerns challenge your life’s balance, count on our gynecology experts to guide you through diagnostic care and treatment.
Your annual exam is a routine part of your health and wellness, even if you don’t need a pap test. Our gynecologists, nurse practitioners and certified nurse midwives will discuss a wide range of issues that can impact your health, such as sexual health, heart health, breast health and mental health, to name a few. When you need more advanced care or treatment, our specialists are here for you with proven approaches to surgery, along with the latest advances in minimally invasive gynecologic methods.
When your health condition requires surgery, you will receive the highest level of care from our skilled medical and surgical teams. Gynecological surgery may be appropriate for any part of a woman’s reproductive system, including the vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. Or you may need surgery for the urinary tract. Our surgeons perform a wide range of specialized surgeries, including:
- Dilation and curettage (D&C)
- Endometrial ablation
- Hysterectomy
- Incontinence Therapies
- Pelvic floor prolapse repair
- Thermal ablation
- Treatment of ovarian cysts
- Tubal ligation
Many procedures can use a minimally invasive approach via laparoscopy or vaginal access — including hysterectomy, fibroid removal and treatment of endometriosis and ectopic pregnancies. These advanced surgical techniques provide benefits to you with smaller incisions, less pain, less scarring, a shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery.
Onvida Health is the only hospital in Arizona to be designated as a Center of Excellence in Women’s Health by the American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (AIMIS). This recognition reflects high standards of care in minimally invasive surgery and the inclusion of an accredited AIMIS surgeon on staff.
Seeking preventive care will help you to stay healthy and receive prompt treatment for medical problems as they arise. Identifying a concern early can result in easier, more effective treatment and faster return to your life activities. Regular preventive care can even help to identify your potential for disease before it develops.
It is important to make routine screenings and services a priority, including annual well-woman exams, immunizations, blood work, health screenings and more. Your provider will assess your risk for conditions such as heart disease or cancer and will ask you about exercise, diet and smoking. In addition, mammography screenings are important to early detection of breast health issues. Your care team will guide you through these priorities throughout your journey of healthy aging.
One of every three women over the age of 45 suffers from some form of urinary incontinence — the loss of voluntary bladder control resulting in urinary leakage. Research suggests that in those over 65, this number increases to one out of every two women. The good news, however, is that urinary incontinence can be effectively managed or even reversed.
You may experience urge, stress or mixed incontinence. With urge incontinence, sometimes called overactive bladder, you may feel an overwhelming need to urinate. Stress incontinence causes urine loss during exercise, coughing, sneezing, laughing or any body movement that puts pressure on the bladder. Mixed incontinence is a combination of urge and stress incontinence.
Treatment depends on the type, severity and underlying cause of your condition and may include behavioral or dietary modifications, medications, a minimally invasive procedure or a combination of treatments.
